The whole world is waiting for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 and now Nintendo finally has something, actually a new piece of hardware. However, you don’t need to expect a fresh console.
We now at least know that the Nintendo Switch 2 is in development. You might get excited when you hear that Nintendo has just announced new hardware. The Nintendo Alarmo is by no means a fresh console, but rather an alarm clock. Yes, honestly.
The bright red and round clock reacts to your body’s movements with sounds from Nintendo video games. For example, the coin collecting sound from Super Mario Odyssey jingles from the alarm clock, the lovely sounds from Splatoon come out of bed or you have music from The Legend of Zelda in your ears.
Depending on your movements, the Nintendo Alarmo plays other sound effects. If you finally manage to get out of bed, a victory melody will be played and your alarm clock will be automatically switched off. The longer you snooze, the more demanding the sounds become. Alarmo detects your movements using a sensor. Snooze sounds, on the other hand, help you fall asleep and of course the watch tracks your sleep quality. Optionally, it also emits a sound every hour on the hour.
In total, Nintendo Alarmo uses alarm calls from five Nintendo titles:
- Super Mario Odyssey
- Pikmin 4
- Splatoon 3
- Ring Fit Adventure
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
For each title there are various scenes that are based, for example, on levels of the respective game. Nintendo promises a lot of customization. When you connect to the Internet, you will gradually receive new sounds, for example Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Are you interested in putting a Nintendo Alarmo on your nightstand? Then hopefully you are a member of Nintendo Switch Online, because initially only subscribers to the service have the opportunity to pre-order it until mid-January 2025. The price in the USA is $99.99, but the device cannot yet be found in the German store.
