Everything actually seemed to be ready for a release of the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2024, but apparently Nintendo has now postponed it. This was reported by several different sources independently of one another.
In the past few months there have been a number of rumors about the Switch successor, which seemed to be firmly planned for the current calendar year 2024 and will presumably bring with it a larger screen. However, there now seems to be a delay and Nintendo has changed its mind. Several reports now say that the Switch 2 will no longer be released in 2024, but rather in 2025. According to reports, the new Nintendo console will no longer be able to lie under the Christmas tree.
The Brazilian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe was the first to report that the Switch 2 will no longer be coming in 2024. Five different sources confirmed this to him. He also stated that Nintendo is working on several games for the new console, which should then be available during the launch window in the first quarter of 2025.
In the period that followed, several other renowned magazines contacted their sources and were able to confirm the Brazilian’s relevant information. So confirmed Eurogamer
Third-party publishers would have received a short update on Nintendo’s internal platform shift. It was previously scheduled for publication at the end of 2024. According to a publisher source, one reason for the delay is that Nintendo wants to prepare a stronger first-party launch line-up for the new console.
The fact that the Switch 2 will appear at least at the beginning of 2025 is definitely the internal plan – like that Eurogamer further. The new console is still planned for the 2025 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.
If that’s still not enough for you, the very last thing you can do is… Bloomberg uses its sources and also reports independently about the new launch time window. It says that the console is not expected until March 2025 at the earliest. Nintendo has refused to comment in all cases, also because the Switch 2 has never been officially discussed to date.
