Originally Webtoon, this manga found its audience with its particularly bizarre style. One Punch Man is the story of a classic unemployed salaryman who one day is confronted with the attack of a crab man and a young man who has painted nipples on the shell.
After trying to confront him, Saitama, the hero of this story, decides to train. For three years he trained: 100 squats, 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups and 10 km running every day.
By the end of this workout, which was so intense he lost his hair, he became strong. Very strong. So strong that he can defeat all enemies in front of him in one fell swoop.
But that’s a problem in his work as a hero: enemies are no longer equated with him. And Saitama is completely bored who thought he could get out of his bleak existence by getting involved in this project.
He then decides to join a whole league of heroes in order to evolve. On his journey he will meet other heroes in their personal quest, veterans, nostalgic mentors and myriads of monsters, each more hideous than the o ther.
One Punch Man succeeds in drawing a special sketch: At the same time, Dantesque struggles, the absurdity of Saitama’s situation and the underlying criticism of the culture of the Japanese performance mix.
This results in a special work that happens to have several reading levels and, above all, stands out from what we normally encounter in this area of the manga. A real breath of fresh air!
