Jeremy Renner wants to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Hawkeye. The Avengers actor announced this about a year after a near-fatal accident.
In case you’re wondering what happened: On New Year’s Day 2023, Jeremy Renner was hit and rolled over by his own snow plow, which weighed approximately six tons. He broke over 30 bones throughout his body, but his life was saved thanks to several emergency operations. Renner spent the last year mostly trying to get back on his feet.
Jeremy Renner is open to more Hawkeye
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight Renner now gives an optimistic update. For his future, the actor definitely plans to take on action-packed roles again – such as that of Clint Barton aka Hawkeye in the MCU.
I’m always up for it. I will be strong enough – that’s for sure. Everyone visited me at my bedside and was by my side during my recovery. If they want me, they can have me. That would be something!

Hawkeye’s MCU future currently remains open
It is currently unknown whether there are plans for more Hawkeye or Clint Barton (there are now two Hawkeyes) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His personal story and character development is considered complete with the Hawkeye series on Disney Plus at the latest.
But the chances for Avengers 5 and/or Avengers 6 shouldn’t be too bad, to come back out of retirement again – at least to give Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) a hand. It will take a while until then: Avengers 5 is scheduled to be in cinemas on May 1, 2026, but fans should expect postponements.
After Jonathan Majors was fired as Kang and The Kang Dynasty was dropped as a subtitle for Avengers 5, the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is somewhat uncertain. On July 26th, Deadpool 3, the only MCU film in 2024, will be released in cinemas for the first time, and Captain America 4 and Thunderbolts will continue in 2025.
Jeremy Renner has appeared in five films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far: Thor, The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Endgame and was at least heard in Black Widow. The actor has been part of the Marvel cinematic universe for 13 years now.
