Overwatch 2’s PvP closed beta has been out for a while now, giving all invitees a way to take the next step in the massive Activision Blizzard hero shooter. A great chance to see the game and all its changes for the first time, this beta marks a big moment for the sequel. After all, everyone knows that first impressions are hard to shake.
Dorrani, our in-house Overwatch player and video creator was one of the few invited. Embedded above, he sums up all his impressions in a six-minute Overwatch 2 test shot. Be sure to keep an eye out for longtime fans of the series to try out the next major installment.
First off, it’s hard to ignore the fact that the game looks very similar to the original Overwatch, with almost identical character and map choices. Having said that, a closer look at the more intricate changes to each character, as well as the graphical improvements reveal where most of the work has been done.
In terms of major new tweaks, the shift from 6v6 to 5v5, it centralizes team composition and keeps battles busy and fast-paced without changing the overall feel too much. There’s also a new hero in Sojourn, a fast-paced railgun-carrying DPS hero that adds some more offensive options without changing the metadata too much.
Then there’s the push, the PVP beta introducing a new game mode where both teams escort bots to portable walls where only they can move. The team that moves the robot the farthest to the wall wins. It certainly fits the Overwatch style, but lacks that exciting sparkle.
For Dorrani’s full impressions, you must check out his comprehensive impressions video embedded above! Once you have, let us know what your impressions are? Is it too similar to Overwatch 1? Or is this what you want?
