Yesterday’s update, March 6, 2024, in Helldivers 2 brought with it very interesting news: improvements and bug fixes, changes to eradication missions and an important balancing of weapons and stratagems. The shotgun Destroyer and the flamethrower They were two of the most benefited. In terms of content, something quite interesting was added… and it’s not the Mechas.
The so-called active planetary dangersaccording to official notes on Steamare phenomena (geological, meteorological, astronomical and more) that occur randomly while we are deployed on planets that have optimal conditions.
Meteorites, fire tornadoes, ion storms and other crazy things
We helldivers have already experienced tremors that slow us down and other more worrying ones, such as fire tornadoes and one meteor shower. I have not had the misfortune of encountering the damned tornadoes, but I have encountered meteorites on two occasions and I assure you that even the easiest game can turn into a true hell.
It was last night, when I was completing a civilian evacuation, that I first witnessed this event. What xDreeganx from Reddit says in his post is true: they are very pretty… at least from afar. Gravity turns beauty into a nightmare from which it is difficult to escape and which does not differentiate sides.
The effects of the meteor shower are devastating. They can last a minute or two, in my experience, and what you see in the sky is not an effect: Every piece of rock that falls ends up impacting the planet. You can check it yourself by doing a 360º sweep with the camera from a high area… as long as a piece doesn’t fall on you.
In my case, I was completing an objective of rescuing civilians. While my companions activated communications, I went ahead to clear the base and begin evacuation as soon as they did their part. It was as soon as they began to transport civilians that the meteor shower began.
Each projectile that hits is like a small bomb: modifies the ground, breaks everything in its path (structures, stratagems…) and kills both helldivers and enemies with one hit. In fact, its impact radius is quite wide. He killed several civilians and bugs (including two medium-sized ones), left the base a mess, completed a secondary nest location, and killed me once. The key is not to sit still and pray everything you know.
I found a couple of posts on Reddit to show it and share other anecdotes: “They destroyed a couple of spore towers for me, which was awesome… until a Hellbomb hit, then it was beautiful,” says one player. “Our entire team was on a target, we were nowhere near a bug hive, but we received an alert that a hive had been destroyed.” As I have said, they destroy everything and do not discriminate.
Unfortunately, meteor showers are not the only thing that is making our lives miserable. Ion storms in Malevelon Creek, for example, cause stratagems to become temporarily blocked. This is not as fun as seeing meteorites fall on our enemies. And let’s not talk about fire tornadoes.

Although they are a nightmare, active planetary dangers They are an incredible addition, another spectacle of lights and explosions for the list. I’m looking forward to seeing them in action when we get the Mechas and other armored vehicles that have been leaked. The only thing we can do until then is flee and/or use the two versions of the shield stratagem, one personal and the other dome-shaped.
Leaving aside my adventure and to summarize, the Rail-Gun is nerfed, the destroyer and the flamethrower are packed like a truck, and planetary dangers join the list of things that can make us jump through the air in Helldivers 2. Sometimes they help, but they are almost certain death.
