pokemon scarlet and violet is the next big game in the beloved monster hunting series. These were developed by Game Freak, a trusted and staunch supporter of mainline Pokemon games.
Entries for Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, released in late 2019, gave us our first true open world, clamoring for fans of 3D Pokémon adventures for years. Following the recent successful entry of Pokemon Legends Arceus, Scarlet and Violet continue this trend, allowing us to embark on a deep, expansive adventure in the world of Pokemon.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release date
Nintendo has a habit of quietly developing multiple projects and announcing them months before their expected release dates. Covid-19 has dramatically impacted video game development, with game delay announcements being made almost every other week
However, Nintendo isn’t immune to events in the outside world, or the mistakes of discussing and disclosing projects before they’re ready. Metroid Dread, for example, was first mentioned as a potential DS game and eventually launched as a Switch game last year. Metroid Prime 4 suffered multiple setbacks during its development, and was first announced about five years ago.
Scarlet and Violet appear to have been made alongside other recent Game Freak titles and will be released in end of 2022. Nintendo’s announcement came earlier than they’re used to, which means they have to be pretty confident that the game will arrive by the holidays.
Where to pre-order Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Retailers are often eager to enjoy the excitement of any major game announcement by opening up early for pre-orders. Global supply issues mean more people are playing games than ever, and it’s common to see big retailers not stocking all of the popular Nintendo Switch games. As Scarlet and Violet don’t currently have a firm release date, there are currently no pre-orders available. Bookmark this page as we’ll update it as soon as any trusted seller opens up pre-orders.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trailer
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company announced the game’s existence at the end of February, releasing a unique and fun trailer that captures what we love about Pokemon.
It mixes live action and in-engine gameplay, starting with an office security guard investigating unusual sounds and lights before unknowingly stepping into a dusty but magical art studio. The gameplay footage from the trailer clip shows off a new colorful environment that players will be able to explore in scarlet and violet, with familiar Pokemon presented in rich, detailed 3D designs.
Pokemon scarlet and violet gameplay
At this time, Nintendo and Game Freak haven’t detailed the characters and worlds we’ll be able to explore in Scarlet and Violet. Looking at The Pokemon Company’s entire process gives us an idea of the trends they’ll continue to develop.
Set in a British-inspired land, Pokémon Sword and Shield gives variety and depth to the worlds and adventures we’re able to investigate. Scarlet and Violet will likely be inspired by real-world areas and focus on the protagonist’s development and the journey they’ll go through.
However, Game Freak did share that we started with one of the three starting Pokemon: Sprigatito, Fuecoco or Quaxly. These Pokemon are from Grass, Fire and Water. It’ll be a while before we know if any of these specific partner Pokemon are more suitable to use from the get-go, but the gameplay will likely be balanced by tweaking whatever choices you make.
While it’s time to start waiting for Scarlet and Violet, it’s still a good time to check out Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. There’s also the recent Pokemon Legends Arceus, which was released to critical acclaim.
