With Privacy Sandbox, Google wants to make personalized advertising on Android phones possible without constantly tracking you. After a year of development, the tool is now being tested.
Personalized ads are one of the most important sources of income for Google, but at the same time many people on the Internet are no longer willing to pay for content and apps “with their data”. With “Privacy Sandbox”, Google now wants to offer a solution that allows personalized advertising on mobile phones, but restricts the transfer of user data and does not use cross-app identifiers.
How does the privacy sandbox work?
Your Android phone determines your interests based on the apps you use and makes this information available to other providers via special programming interfaces (APIs) so that they can adapt the advertising to you. These new APIs are said to have been developed in a data-saving manner. You can see which interests Google ascribes to you in the privacy sandbox and change them if necessary.
Google announced the tool a year ago, and now it should be ready for a public beta test. This will be carried out in the EU – also in Germany.
Here’s how you can join the beta
Sea Google the Privacy Sandbox beta will initially only be available on Android 13 phones. The group wants to select a small percentage of devices for the test. If you are one of the “chosen ones”, you will receive a notification on your mobile phone and can then decide whether you want to participate in the beta or not. Of course, you can exit the test program at any time.
