In 2019, Riot Games had confirmed work on a fighting game in the League of Legends universe. Now, for the first time, insights into the title are given.
In the course of the celebrations around the Netflix hit series “Arcane”, Riot Games has now for the first time given insights into the fighting game Projekt L, which was first confirmed in 2019. Set in the universe of the MOBA long-running League of Legends.
A corresponding blog entry now states that the fight is still “in the research and development phase”. The development team keeps various options open to determine the final direction of the title. At least the work has progressed so far that the first image material and video insights could now be published.
The gameplay clip below is a so-called “vertical slice” that was developed to determine the final appearance of the game. The actual work on content such as characters and environments is only just beginning. Even if the video gives the impression that the work could be well advanced, Riot Games still has a lot to do until Project L is really ready for publication is. The game will therefore not be released in 2022, but in 2023 at the earliest.
The aim is to “develop a very high quality fighting game that the FGC can have fun with for years and maybe even decades”. The current focus is on developing the best possible network code.
Project L will be a tag team fighting game in which you create a team of two champions and lead them into a beat’em-up battle. Today’s preview not only shows the game’s updated Art Style, but also includes an explanation of a champion’s skill set. In addition, the creators briefly talk about the approach to the control, which should be easy to learn but difficult to master.
