Thirteen months after Quentin Tarantino identified The Critic as his tenth and final film, he’s walking back those plans.
The Hollywood Reporter has details about the famed filmmaker abandoning the long-awaited project, but it’s unclear exactly why he had such a radical change so late in the process.

Before “The Critic”, Tarantino had an idea for “Star Trek” and hoped to make it into a movie, but it never came to fruition. He’s been saying for over a few years that he wants to be “at the top of his game,” a line of reasoning that’s surprising to say the least, considering his love for the medium and the fact that most legendary directors never really give up. People are confused. Make Movie. Hell, Ridley Scott (now 86) still averages one major feature film a year. “I want to stop at some point. Directors don’t get better with age. Usually the worst films in their filmography are the last four. I only care about my filmography, a bad one The movie fucking list is three good ones,” Tarantino told Playboy in 2012.
However, based on his reasoning (assuming he’s still committed to the “ten things done” idea), we can see why he’d be extra cautious about the grand finale of his film career. Could he be digging Kill Bill Volume 1? 3 again? It’s too early to say. It’s hard not to consider his tentative TV plans, which could become another immediate option and potentially put some space between him and his final film.
Adding to the headache is reports that The Critic will star Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth, the star of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2018), which he starred in alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton, sparked Bonus question as to whether this film is a prequel/sequel to Tarantino’s previous film.
Mild speculation aside, it’s difficult to tell where this offbeat filmmaker will go next, but knowing him, one can expect the unexpected.
