Ubisoft is once again doing what it does really well, namely delaying games. This time it has affected the planned mobile spin-offs of The Division and Rainbow Six.
Ubisoft has once again put the brakes on the schedule. The mobile spin-offs of the two Tom Clancy shooters announced in 2022 were actually supposed to be released this fiscal year, but that is no longer the case. As the publisher announced, both Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence will not be released until the next fiscal year, i.e. after March 31, 2025.
The reason given is that they want to give their development teams the “necessary time to ensure that these experiences meet expectations with optimized KPIs in the context of a demanding but very large market.” On the one hand, it sounds like the two games still need some changes after the closed betas, and on the other hand, the titles could mean a good start for the coming fiscal year. The current year should already be pretty well supplied with Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
In addition, the first quarter (April to June 2024) exceeded expectations and is described as a solid start. The successful launch of XDefiant is likely to have been the main reason for this. The free-to-play shooter was able to attract 10 million players within the first two weeks. Rainbow Six: Siege also showed strong growth compared to the previous year. The Crew: Motorfest showed “solid commitment”.
Assassin’s Creed even performed well above expectations in the first quarter, and even Skull and Bones did well. All in all, according to the latest financial report, Ubisoft brought in $290 million in the first quarter, which is $15 million more than the target. It seems that the change of course has already paid off somewhat after the poor results in 2022 and 2023.
