Fans have long hoped, making Konami wait all the longer for it. But it’s finally official: Silent Hill returns and has a decent package of new (and old) games in its luggage. Because not only three completely new titles were announced, but also a remake of the horror milestone Silent Hill 2 and even a movie.
In this article we provide you with an overview of all Silent Hill games that have been announced and what we know about them so far. At least one thing is certain: For horror fan Fabiano, the revelation should be a dream come true. Because with Silent Hill 2, his very favorite story game returns, which is almost unplayable in its original version today.

Silent Hill: What new games have been announced?
The important things first: In a live stream from October 19th to 20th, 2022, Konami officially announced three new Silent Hill games and the new edition of part 2. The titles of the projects are as follows:
- Silent Hill 2 Remake
- Silent Hill: Townfall
- Silent Hill: F
- Silent Hill: Ascension
Silent Hill is also returning to cinemas: Last but not least, a new feature film by director Christophe Gans is also planned with Return to Silent Hill. Gans staged the very first film adaptation of Silent Hill back in 2006, but there are currently no concrete details about his new project.
What we know so far about the new Silent Hills
Silent Hill 2 Remake
What game is this going to be? This project is unsurprisingly a re-imagining of the original 2001 Silent Hill 2. The remake is being made by development team Bloober (Layers of Fear), while also featuring veterans of the original such as concept artist Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka involved in the project.
The new edition is created in Unreal Engine 5, uses both Lumen and Naninte technology and comes with a revised combat system and locations. There should be no loading times at all. The Silent Hill 2 Remake will be released for the PC on Steam and as a time-exclusive for the Playstation 5 – there is currently no release date.
What is Silent Hill 2 about? The story is about the widower James Sunderland, who receives a letter from his dead wife Mary and travels to the deserted and mysterious town of Silent Hill. There he not only meets shady characters, but also has to deal with grotesque creatures.

The original is considered one of the horror classics par excellence and is legendary for its dark and melancholic horror atmosphere. In addition, no game fan should miss the story of Silent Hill 2 – at least that’s what Fabiano thinks in one of our GameStar podcasts. It’s best to just listen for yourself:

Silent Hill: Townfall
What game is this going to be? Silent Hill: Townfall is a collaboration with Annapurna Interactive (Stray, Solar Ash, Outer Wilds) and No Code (Observation, Stories Untold). The first teaser trailer for the project remains quite cryptic, but is bursting with atmosphere. Exactly what kind of game Townfall should be and for which platforms it should appear when is currently still open.

One of the people responsible for the project is Ryukishi07, a writer known for his visual crime and horror novels. There is no information about the gameplay, the release and platforms here either.

Silent Hill: Ascension
What game is this going to be? Silent Hill: Ascension is less of a classic video game and more of an interactive streaming experience. Directly fitting that the project involves filmmaker JJ Abrams (Star Wars, Star Trek) with his studio Bad Robot Games. The release is already planned for 2023.
