The Super Bowl LV is just around the corner – and that is also to be celebrated in the long-running Rocket League. You will soon find a new American football mode there.
For sports fans, it’s one of the biggest events of the year: the Super Bowl. In a little more than a week, the mega-event in Tampa Bay in the USA rises – and developer Psyonix is celebrating this fact in the form of a special game mode in the long-running Rocket League.
There the obligatory football is now being replaced by a football. In the new Gridiron game mode, you no longer play football in 4 against 4, but a football variant. The event will start on February 2nd, 2021; this will then last until the Super Bowl on February 8, 2021.
How does the game play with football? If you touch the egg with your body, you automatically become the carrier and can drive the football towards the opposing goal aka end zone. The football is automatically placed on the roof of your vehicle.
If another player touches the football, they automatically become the ball carrier, so you can hand-offs to team members; However, opponents can also steal the ball from you in this way. As a ball carrier, simple jumps are possible, but with double jumping you lose the ball. You can also pass the ball via dodging.
Each goal counts 3 or 7 points, whereby the 7 points – in real American football for a touchdown and extra point – are given if the player carrying the ball drives into the opposing goal. There are 3 points for a shot into the goal. If the ball gets into one’s own goal without a vehicle, this is always penalized with 3 points for the opponent.
