Several videos from Battlefield 2042 are currently making the rounds on social media, in which a new effect can be seen: a species Dark mode for flashbangs! The shooter expert and YouTuber JackFrags, for example, shows what this looks like (here in comparison with the normal blinding effect):

The new option has been available in the Accessibility Options menu since the start of Season 2. There you can switch the effect from light to dark.
- What’s the point? Instead of creating the usual blinding effect, our Dark Mode image instead goes dark as soon as a flashbang explodes in front of us. Typically, such weapons in shooters have the effect of glaringly whitening the screen to simulate the effect of the grenade. Players do not have an advantage from the option, the view of the game is equally clouded.
- Why is this helpful? As with other Dark Modes, the purpose of the option is to relieve the eyes. Just like the Dark Mode from GameStar.de, by the way! Sudden white light can trigger discomfort, migraines or even epileptic seizures, especially in people with photosensitivity. But flashbang grenades in shooters usually mean stress for the eyes in other respects too: Flashing effects can even be painful, especially when playing in darkened rooms.
- How is the community reacting? Many users are praising developer DICE’s elegant solution to a problem that’s been in the shooter landscape since the days of Counter-Strike. The well-known Battlefield streamer Westie praised the option via Twitter and received a lot of encouragement:
“It should actually be in every game,” writes one user, while another comments: “No more burned retinas, it’s fantastic!”
In the comments section of JackFrags’ original tweet, this statement got a lot of support: “Much healthier for the eyes when playing at night. Great feature, thanks for sharing.«
What do you think of the new dark mode for flashbangs in Battlefield 2042? Will you try the feature and should other shooters also offer such an option? Write us in the comments!
What’s next for Battlefield?

But there is something bigger on the horizon: With the return of the class system, the developers announced a very decisive change at the end of August, which could perhaps even mark a turning point for the heavily criticized game.
Meanwhile, new Game Director Marcus Lehto takes to Twitter to ask Battlefield fans about their likes, experiences, and feedback – potentially laying the groundwork for Battlefield 7!
