Sony has pulled out its wallet again and taken over a new developer studio. The same should take care of a business field in which Sony is not so incredibly active.
Sony has announced that it has reached an agreement to acquire developer Savage Game Studios. Said studio is thus part of the PlayStation Studios and shows that Sony is currently pursuing quite ambitious plans beyond the PlayStation 5.
The still young studio, which was only founded in 2020, consists primarily of veterans in the field of game development for mobile games. Savage Game Studios is now part of the newly formed PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which operates independently of console development and aims to focus on innovative mobile experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP.
In the announcement Savage Game Studios said: “We entered into this agreement because we believe the leadership of PlayStation Studios respects our ideas of how best to work and thrive, and because they too are not afraid to take risks . All of that, plus the opportunity to tap into PlayStation’s amazing catalog of intellectual property, and the fact that we’ll benefit from the kind of support that only they can provide.”
The takeover of the mobile studio confirms Sony’s ambition to reach a wider audience. In addition to the PlayStation consoles, Sony is currently increasingly focusing on expanding the PC releases, which have established themselves quite successfully. In addition, with PSVR2, the new edition of VR glasses is in sight and now the mobile sector is apparently also to be significantly strengthened.
Savage Game Studios currently has offices in Berlin and Helsinki and is also at the Search for more employeesincluding Senior Level Designer, Art Director, Technical Director and more.
