Yesterday, CES 2024 rocked the tech world, packed with all kinds of fun and exciting gadgets and gizmos. But perhaps the one that will interest video game fans the most is the Sony Afeela EV concept car – which uses a PS5 controller to drive around the stage.
Now, before you get too excited about the potential implications of PlayStation 5 users being able to drive expensive cars remotely, this feature is purely for technical demonstration purposes. Your dream and running amok around town from a safe distance is exactly that. However, the car also comes with built-in customization capabilities utilizing Unreal Engine 5.

During Sony’s demo, we saw various options that affect not only the car’s interior dashboard and screens, but also a small panel on the front bumper. Using the phone, users can change the visuals from a variety of calming artistic tones, or big flashy Fortnite blue, or even a Spider-Man color scheme. According to the presentation, the aim is to increase users’ creativity through a partnership with Epic Games.
The car itself does look cool. It features artificial intelligence-assisted driving, a modern interior look and soundproofing. In terms of the target audience, you have to imagine it’s designed for affluent upper-middle class families who want a futuristic car that you can shoot TV in the back of. When I was younger I never saw the appeal, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve learned to appreciate these ridiculously expensive four-seat strollers.
I can’t wait to see what wild things Unreal Engine comes up with to get people involved in this thing. You know, the fact that people get stupid out of this – design their own custom crap stickers and put them in their new cars. Personally, I’d like to see the interior design of Marvel vs Capcom 2. Perfect for taking the family for a ride.
As for when we can see this car on the road? we do not know. It’s still in the prototype stage and was presented purely at CES as a big, exciting showpiece for people to see in person and online. If you could afford such a huge mechanical marvel, would you buy it? Let us know below!
