Sony plans to continue supporting PC with its first-party games, but it may take “at least a year” for games to be released to the platform.
That’s according to PlayStation Studios boss Hermen Hulst, who added that the company’s live-service games could be released before a year after launch.
Various first-party games have been released on PC, including Days Gone, God of War, and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered. The PC pipeline includes Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Uncharted: The Legacy Collection.
In an interview with Julien Chieze (via VGC), Hulst said it was “great” for Sony Studios to release their game to PC because it attracted more players. But while Sony is happy with how its games are performing on the platform, it doesn’t plan to release dates and dates for its games on PC à la Xbox.
“I think in the future we’ll see at least a year between the PC platform and launch, with the possible exception of live service games,” Hulst said, noting that “live service games are a little bit different” because they start from the moment the game goes live. , you need a “strong community” and strong participation.
“So we may be in sync with the PC and PlayStation platforms in the case of our live service offering,”: he said.
Live-service games are something Sony is bullish on, and earlier this year it said it planned to release 10 live-service games by 2026. According to the company, part of the reason for the acquisition of Bungie was to use the studio in the living services space.
