In the “Star Trek” franchise there are various parallel universes and alternative timelines. We introduce you to everyone who has been featured in the series so far.
“Star Trek: Discovery” Season 5 is currently streaming on Paramount+. In the fifth episode “Mirror” references were made to the mirror universe, which has existed in the “Star Trek” universe since the 1960s. But the multiverse is even more extensive than that and there are significantly more parallel universes and timelines.
A distinction is made between temporary timelines, which are deviations from the prime timeline that need to be resolved, and closed timelines. These are parallel existing timelines. So parallel universes to the Prime Universe.
In “Star Trek” there are an infinite number of parallel universes and temporary deviations from the timeline. But we only got to know a fraction of them in the series and films. We’ll show you the alternative timelines we’ve seen so far. Have fun!
The Breen are destroying the Federation
In the fourth “Star Trek: Discovery” episode, Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) jump through different moments in the timeline. In a time jump, we find ourselves around 30 years in the future of “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 5, in the 32nd century. The USS Discovery is abandoned and the Federation headquarters is in ruins. It turns out that the weapon the USS Discovery is looking for in Season 5 has fallen into the wrong hands.
Michael realizes that next to the rubble there is an intact spaceship: the Breen. These powerful aliens were introduced in “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and were also mentioned in “Discovery”. It is an alternate timeline, so the fall of the Federation can be averted.
United Earth Fleet
The third episode of the second season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” presents us with a reality in which Starfleet was never founded. This is because the Romulans managed to kill Khan Noonien Singh before the Eugenic Wars broke out on Earth.
Only through the wars that reduced the earth to rubble and ashes was the earth able to rise from the ashes like a phoenix. The timeline in the episode is temporary and after the Romulans’ attack is thwarted, the Prime timeline is restored.
