The missing fragment
The entire first epi sode of the fifth season of “Star Trek: Discovery” is a continuation of the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” episode “The Missing Fragment”. The aim is to find evidence that a kind of primordial species distributed its DNA throughout the universe a very long time ago.
This explains why so many humanoid species in the Star Trek universe look so human, because they all share the same DNA origin. In “Star Trek: Discovery”, the new villains Moll (Eve Harlow) and L’ak (Elias Toufexis) set out to get to the bottom of this origin because they want to find out how humanoid creatures came to be in the galaxy.
Since this knowledge and the power can be very dangerous in the wrong hands, the Discovery under Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is commissioned to track down the two crooks and also go on a search.
