In the fourth episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” season 2, Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew visit the planet Rigel VII. Trekkies already know Rigel VII, of course.
Captain Pike had visited this planet five years earlier, in the year 2254 of the “Star Trek” chronology, and lost three crew members in the process. He blames himself for this loss, although his crew encourages him: He couldn’t have prevented it.
Star Trek: Rigel VII was in the pilot “The Cage”
The above takes place in the “Starship Enterprise” pilot film “The Cage”. Later in the episode, Pike ends up on another planet, Talos IV, where he then relives his experiences on Rigel VII through an illusion. This is where we see Rigel VII for the first time as Pike faces his guilt.
At the beginning of “The Cage” only Rigel VII was talked about. Which is why the loss that Pike went through is not that emotional for us as viewers at first. Only in the course of the episode are the contents more and more illuminated.
“The Cage” is available to stream on Paramount+ and Netflix as the first episode of the first season of “Starship Enterprise”. Next week, the next “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” episode awaits us in the Paramount+ news program. We list you all “Star Trek” new releases!
