In the ninth episode of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” the crew of the USS Enterprise embarks on an away mission to investigate an abandoned spaceship. It quickly turns out that the crew members of the abandoned ship were murdered by young Gorn, and now the Enterprise crew must confront this same menace.
The teenage Gorn are absolutely terrifying, but La’An (Christina Chong), Hemmer (Bruce Horak) and Co. are undeterred. They lure the Gorn into a trap and are victorious. However, Hemmer dies in battle, as the Gorn were able to infect him with eggs that would have hatched more hatchlings inside him if he hadn’t sacrificed himself.
The tragic loss came as a surprise to fans, as Bruce Horaks Hemmer had only just become a fan favourite. But for fans there is now, according to the US magazine TrekMovie Good news: Bruce Horak is set to return, possibly even in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2.
I think we’re allowed to say that Bruce Horak…his relationship with ‘Star Trek’ isn’t over yet. We love the guy. and ‘Star Trek’ has a long history of reinstating actors. […] You’re like, ‘Well, they were an alien, they could be another alien now, they could go makeupless because we only know them as an alien.’ Whatever awaits us in the future, we know his relationship with ‘Star Trek’ isn’t over yet.
