In the series finale of “Star Trek: Picard,” there’s a touching Easter egg that commemorates the late Chekov actor Anton Yelchin from the “Star Trek” movies starring Chris Pine — and brings back Walter Koenig.
- There is an affectionate nod to the late actor Anton Yelchin in the series finale.
- Yelchin played the role of Pavel Chekov in the “Star Trek” films with Chris Pine and passed away in 2016.
- At the beginning of the final “Star Trek: Picard” episode, the President of the Federation is introduced: Anton Chekov, voiced by Walter Koenig.
The final episode of “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3 is available on Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+. The conclusion of the sci-fi series focuses on Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his old friends from The Next Century, but the beginning of the episode takes a moment to commemorate Anton Yelchin.
Yelchin played the role of Pavel Chekov in the “Star Trek” films with Chris Pine and died in an accident in 2016 at the age of 27. He was already thought of in “Star Trek: Discovery” when the spaceship USS Yelchin was introduced. Now he’s getting an even bigger legacy in Star Trek: Picard.
At the beginning of the episode, the President of the United Federation of Planets speaks words of caution about the Borg threat. The President’s name: Anton Chekov. Here, Yelchin’s first name and his role’s last name were put together.
Anton Chekov is the son of the legendary Pavel Chekov. Anton Chekov is actually spoken by Ur-Chekov-Star Walter Koenig. It would certainly be interesting to get to know the role one day. In the potential sequel to “Star Trek: Picard”, “Star Trek: Legacy”, this would be possible.
Now that Star Trek: Picard is complete, we can look forward to more Star Trek releases to come. In June, for example, Season 2 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” will start!
