News culture Star Wars: George Lucas has so much unused footage he could remake a new trilogy
Star Wars is a very large piece of cinema and one of the cornerstones of science fiction within the Seventh Art. A colossal project initially directed by George Lucas, who still had a lot of film material in stock.
From the waterfall or nothing
“Star Wars” first hit theaters in 1977 and quickly became a huge hit that would change everything. The rest is history: George Lucas became one of the hottest directors in the history of cinema, but also one of the richest and most influential personalities. The American first worked on the original trilogy, then from 1999 to 2005 on the prequel, three equally celebrated and criticized films: dThe large and very ambitious projects take full advantage of digital special effects, but also don’t hesitate to take lightsaber battles to the next level.
The orchestrated choreographies are, so to speak, ultra-dynamic, meticulous and precise: Gorge Lucas particularly stood out Nick Gillard, a well-known stuntman who served as stunt coordinator throughout the prequel (and who was already a stuntman in the trilogy). A primal role.
More and more
It was precisely during a recent interview for the “Chris and Company” podcast with Chris Castellani that Nick Gillard returned to the film adaptation of the prelogy: He reiterated that it was a gigantic project, so big that George Lucas would have unused footage until he didn’t know what to do with it.
Obviously this is meant to spark some curiosity. Would a George Lucas Director’s Cut be possible one day in a very long format? The trend is definitely real in the industry and has also been popularized by Zack Snyder with his Snyder’s Cut of Justice League and more recently by the two Rebel Moon. Even James Cameron is interested in the idea, who actually thought of two versions for “Avatar 3”: one with two and a half hours for the cinema… and one with six hours for television.
