Although neon white First announced at a Nintendo Direct last February, the title was finally given a release date June 16 at the Summer Games Festival. That’s super fast.
Neon White, coming to PC and Switch next week, is published by Annapurna Interactive, publisher of a variety of successful and complex indie games, including Outer Wilds, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Donut County. As it happens, Ben Esposito, the esteemed developer behind the award-winning Donut County, teamed up with Angel Matrix to create Neon White.
The game promises to be a fast-paced first-pers on shooter focused on eliminating demons from heaven. Playing as Neon, players will take on the role of competitive demon slayers fighting for their chance of a permanent resting place in heaven.
Neon White appears to have a wealth of mechanics, ranging from standard RNG-fueled platforming levels, card-based mechanics, and even a variety of features from a dating sim. It’s all on top of what Annapurna calls “a very clever story.”
Levels can be completed in a split second, depending on your skills, and Neon White appears to be an energetic playground that drives speed runners crazy. That doesn’t mean this game is just for speed runners, though, and there seems to be lightning-fast assassin fun for anyone who wants to get into the action.
Neon White can now be wishlisted on Steam or Switch from the game’s website.
