If you want to support your favorite streamers on Twitch financially, you usually do so by taking out a paid channel subscription. So far that has cost you five dollars a month – but Amazon is now lowering prices. However, the wallets of the streamers could suffer massively.
Fairer prices for Twitch subs
After the regional price differentiation has already been introduced in many parts of the world, it is now also applicable in Europe.
Specifically, that means: The prices for the subscriptions are now also adjusted to the currency in this country and are no longer taken one-to-one from the dollar price. While the costs for a Twitch Sub in the USA remain at five dollars, the price in Europey drops by 20 percent to four dollars.
Thus, the subscription in this country is now even a few percent cheaper than in the United States.
When does the new price apply? According to a press release available to us, the price change should start on Thursday, August 5th, 2021 at 3 p.m. – however, it can take up to a week for the new prices to be displayed to all users.
Less money for streamers
Many viewers should be happy to be able to get cheaper subscription bonuses such as additional emotes. In the case of streamers, however, the change is likely to cause disillusionment.
As a rule, they get 50 percent of the income generated by subscriptions, some of the big Twitch stars even get 70 percent and more – so if the price drops in this country, the income will also fall from 2.50 dollars to 2 dollars per subscription. A medium-sized streamer with 1,000 subscribers who can barely live on Twitch will only collect 2,000 instead of 2,500 dollars in future.

How much money do streamers make on Twitch?
That’s what Twitch says: According to the streaming platform, the price change should be an all-round good thing. Many viewers have asked for this change so that they can now support their favorite streamers. In a test run in Brazil, the number of subscribers to many streamers is said to have more than doubled – but here the costs have also dropped significantly more. A sub costs the equivalent of around 1.50 instead of the previous $ 4.50.
Whether 20 percent more people will decide to open their wallets as a result of the 20 percent lower price in Europey is at least questionable – even if the Europes are the second largest market for Twitch with almost seven percent of all viewers. For many, however, streaming will continue to be completely free entertainment.
What the streamers say: Shortly after the changes became known, numerous streamers commented, including Gronkh. You can read how much streamers will really lose in the following article:
