With Tales from the Borderlands, the successful looter shooter series has received a more story-based adventure spin-off – and this is now officially continued.
In 2014, Gearbox released Tales from the Borderlands, an adventure offshoot of its successful looter shooter series that was quite convincing. After years of waiting, the time has actually come: There will be a sequel to the spin-off!
Last night at PAX East, Gearbox announced that Tales from the Borderlands will return with a sequel later in 2022. Incidentally, details in this regard are currently still rather rare, but the makers also promise some totally new approaches for the new game.
Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford emphasized that the new project will do many things noticeably differently than its predecessor: “This time we’re doing it to show completely new characters and storylines from the Borderlands. Soon we will be launching the completely new game in the Announcing the Borderlands universe and presenting it in the style of this interactive fiction. I’m talking about an all new Tales from the Borderlands adventure.”
The first part was once developed by Telltale Games and told its story over five separate episodes. After Telltale closed in 2018, the franchise was sold to 2K Games, which also owns the main series. According to Gearbox, the new part of the sub-franchise has been worked on in secret for several years. The full show is planned for the summer, with release later in 2022.
