Team Fortress 2 isn’t exactly gone, but I can’t tell you when the last time myself or anyone I know played it. Games that were once all the rage on Steam slowly faded into obscurity, plagued by bots and without any major updates since.
That is, until, yesterday. Team Fortress 2 shared a blog post with fans and players detailing that the game will be receiving an “full update-sized update” and needs help from the community.
I don’t know about you, but when I first saw this thread circulating on Twitter last night, I was weary and thought it was an elaborate prank. Alas, this isn’t a drill, this update could finally bring Team Fortress 2 back to life. Players who miss the light-hearted shooter can finally rejoice in some new official content.
After announcing that the update will include new items, maps, taunts, and more, Team Fortress 2 also said it needs Steam Workshop content from players. If you want to contribute, you’ll need to submit anything to the Steam Workshop by May 1st for it to have a chance to be featured in an “untitled, unthemed but still very exciting summer”-positioning (but not summer themed) (unless you want to develop something summer themed) update. “
What does the community think? Well, it seems like a lot of them are happy that Team Fortress 2 isn’t dead. u/Felaxi on the Team Fortress 2 subreddit proclaimed they had a straight up heart attack, and u/reactivesayswhat had a similar reaction to myself, “Wait, really? This isn’t a post? Please don’t get my hopes up.”
And, well, most don’t either. After all, it’s been a while. Let’s also not forget that that blog post never said this was the final update for Team Fortress 2 either, so we hope the game and its fans will find new leases of life without robots in the future. I support all of you.
