The lovely tribute to the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata continues into The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and it’s even better than the last one.
Spoilers for Future Kingdom Tears!
Breath of the Wild is a special game for many reasons, but one of the most memorable moments is easily tied to a specific location: Satori Mountain. At some point during the game, you may see a glowing mountain in the distance, and if you make your way there, you’ll find the King of the Mountain, also known as Satori. There are no life-changing game mechanics in there, it’s just a nice moment in honor of Satoru Iwata, beloved by many at Nintendo. In Tears of the Kingdom, the King of the Hill returns in a unique way to continue the tribute.
During your travels through Hyrule, you might come across a pink cherry blossom tree. They’re usually easy to spot as there are only a few of them throughout the game, only eight in total. On these trees, you’ll find a small stone statue with a plate attached to it, where you can offer a piece of fruit – if you do, you’ll start seeing glowing halos scattered around the nearby landscape, point ing you towards the hidden cave.
If you’ve ever explored caves, you know that hiding inside is the Bubble Frog, which once hit enough times will spawn the Bubble Gem, a key item that will help you unlock various items as a quest part of the line. These auras won’t last forever, but you can provide another piece of fruit and they will reappear.
Iwata is known for being hands-on and involved in the development of several Nintendo games (thanks to him, you can explore the entire Kanto in Pokémon Gold and Silver), so it feels fitting to pay homage to the protagonist of Mountain Help Us All people complete our new journey in Hyrule.
