News JVTech Tesla: This new myth surrounding Elon Musk’s cars makes many laugh, but…
An American influencer has posted a video of him attempting to stall a Tesla from circulation by imprisoning it in a salt circle. Content that quickly went viral but is just a big joke.
Can a Tesla get caught in the middle of a circle of salt? The question seems to be the most basic magic. And yet, if it goes in the right direction, it can be relevant: If the circle of salt looks like lane markings, the electric car’s sensors may be able to react to it.
In a 2017 experiment the artist James Bridle had therefore tried to lock a Tesla in a circle of salt by simulating a marking on the ground. However, the process ended in utter frustration as James Bridle did not respond to the result of his experiment.
So the question remained open, which clearly prompted one TikTok influencer, Kaz Sawyer, to form his own opinion on the question.
A video presented as a joke went viral
Via TikTok and YouTube, The content creator staged himself locking Teslas in a parking lot by surrounding them with salt.
The video is marked as a prank (a joke), but that does not prevent millions of netizens from seeing it since the end of February : The video has 39 million views on YouTube alone. Many are confused (and rightly so), while others give him some credit
The problem is, that This second video, which provides the answer to the original question, has only been viewed 6.7 million times on YouTube, compared to 39 million for the first video. This tends to show that when many netizens had all the cards in their hands to wonder about the situation, In the end, only very few discovered that it was just a joke.
A theory defused by Elon Musk
If we look a little further, we see thatElon Musk himself responded to James Bridle’s 2021 video on Twitter. The head of Tesla then explained “It could catch a Tesla on factory autopilot, but it doesn’t work in manual driving. On the other hand, surrounding the car with a circle of cones blocks it, even when driving manually. ยป
Will likely catch a Tesla with the stock autopilot build but won’t work with FSD. However, using a cone ring would stop FSD.

Kaz Sawyer’s video isn’t even really funny, which shows its virality rests above all on the strange staging that is done inside. Also, since the prank is split into two parts, you can imagine that A lot of people who saw the first video didn’t watch the secondand therefore have no real answer to the question.
Finally, The myth of the salt-blocked Tesla is quickly shattered with a little digging. We can never say it enough, it’s better not to take the videos circulating on social networks seriously right away, especially when the staged situation seems really bizarre.
