We’ll have to get used to it now, CD Projekt Red gives updates on the progress of its projects. And good news: The development of The Witcher 4 has begun.
Serious things will begin. CD Projekt Red has announced that it has completed the research phase surrounding what is currently called The Witcher 4. The next game based around the Witcher universe has therefore now entered the pre-production phase, where the biggest work is done: the modeling of the open world, characters, design of the entire narrative, game mechanics, etc. In short, the big job begins.
The Witcher 4 is progressing
The actual development of the game therefore began in the first quarter of 2022. The Witcher 4 is currently being looked after by a team of 100 developers who are already announcing that they are feeling the progress made by the Unreal Engine 5 in terms of efficiency and productivity.
Remember that the Polish studio put its own engine in the closet and got seduced by the capabilities of Epic Games’ engine, which could do wonders in terms of open-world design. For its part, CD Projekt Red is also developing its own tools for the narrative, no doubt to push its mechanics of dialogues, choices, and consequences even further.
All that’s left to do is wait
Very good news, then, but that doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing The Witcher 4 any time soon. It will be years before the game takes shape and the developers are ready to show it off. A small CGI teaser to get fans mouths open isn’t out of the question, but priority for now is the Cyberpunk 2077 Narrative DLC.
For its part, The Witcher 3’s next-gen patch has finally been pushed back to the end of the year. It will at least allow players to wait while awaiting the arrival of the new saga and the next season of the Netflix series.
