Trade fairs like E3 and Gamescom are among the highlights of the gaming year, but for years we have doubted whether they make any sense at all. Why should publishers and developers waste millions on exhibition stands and press conferences when they can present games just as well in a live stream?
But we now demand: The E3 and other trade fairs must not die!
This demand is at least a little selfish. Because for us at GameStar, trade fairs are exhausting and sometimes downright annoying, but at the same time incredibly exciting and memorable.
Dimi Halley, Micha Graf and Michi Obermeier (#Dimichicha) talk about what makes E3 and other trade fairs so great for us personally: tears and taxi drivers, team spirit and teleprompter.
Digital trade fairs, as we experience them in Corona times, can only incompletely replace the advantages of a “real” E3 – nevertheless we are naturally looking forward to our big E3 show in 2021.
As Michi says: It is the feeling on Christmas Eve, just before there are gifts.
