Now even fans have displays: Lian-Li is introducing new models with RGB lighting
The look of PC hardware has changed significantly over the last ten or twenty years. While RGB lighting no longer surprises anyone, even with cables, LC displays are still quite rare. As far as I know, they have never been used in fans – until now.
The Uni Fan TL LCD is here: Lian-Li has introduced a new fan that has a display in the middle. The most important technical key data for the small screen follows.
- Size: 1.6 inches
- Resolution: 400×400 Pixel
- Panel: IPS (SRGB 24-Bit)
- Brightness: 500 cd/m²
In addition to information such as the fan speed and the temperature of the CPU and graphics card, you can also display your own images, GIFs and videos. The supported formats are GIF, MP4, JPG and PNG.
The fans are available in both 120 millimeter and 140 millimeter sizes, as well as in black and white colors and with regular and reversed airflow. RGB lighting is also on board, as can be seen in the video included at the beginning of the article.
How much does the new fan cost?
46.90 dollars for a 120 fan, 149.90 for three fans including controller. The 140 model costs five dollars more.
But what should we make of all this?
I’m torn
On the one hand I have to admit that the fan with display definitely appeals to me visually and I think the additional customization options are cool.
on the other hand However, there are many constellations in which you cannot properly see the display on the fan, such as radiators on the top of the case or tower CPU coolers – not to mention PC cases that are not so easily visible.
It is also questionable how much of the small displays you really notice in everyday life. You’ll quickly get tired of animations or images and if you need information about fan speed or temperature, you’ll probably have a better view of it on the PC screen.
Anyone who is thinking about buying such a fan should keep that in mind, and all my complaining and It really needs to light up and flash more in the PC
-In spite of a (relatively) old man shaking his head, I can’t help but feel a certain urge to buy.
Since my Mini-ITX case is largely unsuitable for the display fans, I should easily resist this. On the other hand, if you have a PC in which the fans (and especially their displays) can be easily showcased, I can certainly understand why you would buy them despite the high price.
