Saturday October 8th was organized by Squeezie the GP Explorer. It was a Formula 4 race in which 22 drivers from 11 teams competed against each other for the occasion. Completely framed by the FFSA, the French Motorsport Federation, he was not taken lightly at all. Even before the 22 content creators were allowed to climb into their single-seater, months of training took place with theory and practical classes, simulator and kart sessions.

And at the same time you have to be aware that these vehicles are up to 250 km/h fast and that they are very different from classic cars. Not only does the speed increase, many aspects that are completely foreign to other vehicles also have to be taken into account, such as tire management. The course has to be learned as well as all the rules surrounding the race.

Safety was a priority on this route. At this speed, a collision between two vehicles can have serious consequences.

The program for the GP Explorer Day

From 9 a.m. the 22 drivers were on the track for free practice. The opportunity to get going again, to rediscover the sensations with your car but also to warm up the track to allow good grip for the future.

At 10 a.m. it was time for qualifying, which took place in three phases until around noon. The 15-lap race itself was scheduled for 5 p.m. and had Sylvain Levy from the Vilebrequin YouTube channel crowned champion after an intense duel for first place with Pierre-Olivier Valette aka Depielo.

Everything took place at the Bugatti Le Mans circuit. It consists of 11 corners that you have to take with care not to fade into the background. Including the famous Dunlop chicane with turns 2 and 3. Pretty complicated to understand, several drivers found themselves in the gravel during practice.

From the beginning of the day, many losses of control took place. Between the stress, the lack of experience of the pilots, but also and above all the lack of grip, some of them were afraid. Be aware that when the track is cold; like the morning before, the drivers did a few laps: and the tires are cold, the grip is the weakest!

But the most impressive accident did not occur during testing. vsn the second qualifying phase, everyone got scared. In fact, Joyca lost control and found herself in the background.

The front of the car is completely demolished. The spectators, the organization and the moderators are all shocked. The culprit: the Dunlop chicanethat all pilots feared from the start. At this point, you only have to let off the gas for a moment and the steering wheel is not at the perfect angle for everything to go crazy.

Most Luckily more fear than harm! The car is badly damaged, but Joyca escapes unharmed.

The qualifying phase is quickly broken off and Joyca’s dream of racing evaporates completely at this point. The shock is over, he will go to the set to deliver his news. And these are excellent considering the accident that happened! Only a slight pain in the lower back remains.

Coming back to the action, he hints that he was fine entering the corner. He was calm. But that didn’t stop him from losing his footing and falling into the background.

During the accident he keeps his eyes closed. There is nothing left but to wait for him, control is completely lost. For a moment that seemed like an eternity, he has time to circumnavigate his life.

After the shock, the organization of the race reacted very quickly. Red flag, end of qualifying and most importantly the Race Marshals (volunteers) come immediately to help the driver.

We quickly realize that it’s about Joyca. The information is transmitted efficiently and quickly: he is in good health. His first instinct as soon as he got out of the vehicle: ask what time it was! And it has to be said that it wasn’t bad as it would have allowed him to start from 12th on the grid. On the set we see him calm and in good health.

Even if the car is badly damaged, all is not lost for him! Indeed, the engineers and mechanics at FFSA are working hard to get it back on the road in time for the race. Nothing is certain, but there is hope.

And Joyca still wants to be able to take part. Even though he will be driving slower than he could have done and he fears a mental block, he feels ready to get back on track if given the chance.

Just before 3pm the news came: The car was repaired and Joyca would start 12th on the grid! The work of the mechanics was exceptional and saved the vehicle in just a few hours.

The one who could have been beaten still managed to finish in 20th place. A very nice result if we consider everything that happened to him!
