Full Discord integration on PS5 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated features. It’s finally arriving on console, but not everyone will be able to enjoy it just yet.
It was long awaited. A while back, PlayStation and Discord announced a partnership to bring voice chat directly to the PS5. However, Xbox had grilled the priority, but this time it’s the right one. The two tech giants today announce the arrival of Discord on PS5. Be careful though, not everyone will be able to benefit just yet.
Discord finally on PS5, but not for everyone
Discord launches on PS5 this Tuesday 2nd February 2023. Now gamers can use voice chat of the application popular with gamers directly from their PlayStation 5. A long-awaited feature for those who love cross-play games, which, for example, would play multiplayer with friends on PC. However, full integration will not be available to everyone at first. Only those enrolled in the PS5 system software beta program can enjoy it. Availability will then be extended to all players. If the press release doesn’t give a date, Tom Henderson had claimed that its full deployment was scheduled for March 8, 2023 with the 7.00 update.
PS5 beta participants will therefore receive an email with a code that will allow them to update their console with Discord’s beta software. Once installed, they just have to go to Settings > Users & Accounts > Linked Services to discover a new option to link their Discord account on PS5. You then need to link your PSN account to that of the messaging service. Verification is required via two options: use a QR code to connect with your smartphone, or use the PS5 browser to connect over the internet on the console. Since the first option is easier and faster, it is highly recommended. Once this is over, PlayStation 5 players will finally be able to chat with their Discord friends right from their console.
