A new hotfix lands Destiny 2 Light March 23rd will address a major issue that has been grieving players since the release of the latest expansion: Finally, the damage output of the Cabal Thresher will be nerfed.
Why is this important? First, a history lesson. With the introduction of Lightfall, the Cabal Airship gets a massive upgrade. Ever since we first set foot on Neomuna and started experimenting with the power of the Strand, these nasty airships have been firing missiles that can kill you in one shot. Usually from the entire map. And when the Thresher cannon fires at you, there’s not much you can do; it’ll go around corners and even sometimes through doors. They’ve been the bane of many Guardians for weeks, given how frequently they spawn on Neomuna, their new patrol location.
It’s even more egregious in the recently revamped Nightfall or Battlefield missions. In addition to being harder overall (I’m here for a change, for what it’s worth), Guardians also have to deal with threshers that output damage at a much higher rate than expected. Bungie, getting shot in the face from a cannon is the antithesis of fun when you’re trying to get 200k Lightfall points in Legend.
But why? Oddly enough, it has to do with frame rate. Incoming damage from certain sources is based on your FPS count, the higher the FPS count, the more damage you take. The reason Threshers can kill you so easily is because their damage scales with your framerate – a perennial problem Bungie has been aware of for a long time. This issue plagued other (now fixed) damage sources such as Cabal Slugs and Shrieker Projectiles, but still exists on other damage sources such as Taken Fire.
pity! Bungie heard it! in the tweet Released on Wednesday night (UK time), the developers noted that – in an update released on March 23 – Threshers will be less deadly.
“We know those Threshers are a bit spicy, but you can do whatever you want, including don’t die from Threshers, patch tomorrow,” the tweet said. “Don’t let those dreams be dreams.”
The text, taken from the changelog and captured in the tweet, reads: “Fixed Cabal Threshers doing more damage than intended”. rejoice!
What else is included in the changelog remains to be seen, but I’m happy to see this being prioritized – hopefully you won’t be thrown off the map by some stupid cannon in the middle of your Exotic public event encounter starting tomorrow . Cheers Bungie.
