The rumors of a resounding return of the legendary DOOM series appear to be confirmed by a very official discovery.
DOOM’s impending return was first mentioned last week by the very well-informed Tom Warren, who looked back at the turmoil currently raging on the Xbox. His words seemed to be confirmed when Eurogamer discovered that Bethesda had filed a significant trademark last January. We go through the administrative documents with Super Shotgun.
A new brand that announces the return of DOOM
The brand In question, the name DOOM is not shown in black and white. It’s actually titled “IDKFA.” However, veterans of the legendary FPS series will recognize a cheat code that was used in games of that era. The document submitted by Bethesda is definitely aimed at topics closely related to video games. It could thus refer to the famous DOOM: Year Zero, which was discovered in the evidence submitted to the FTC as part of the Activision Blizzard takeover trial/soap opera.
According to Tom Warren, we should definitely see the announcement of a new game from the license during the Xbox Games Showcase scheduled for June 9th. In any case, the matter turns out to be plausible. Let’s remember that the latest game developed by id Software is DOOM Eternal. He also released Quake Champions in 2017, a free-to-play FPS that unfortunately didn’t have the expected success. The studio therefore had time on paper to work on a new work in the cult FPS franchise.
The other Bethesda-branded studios are occupied elsewhere anyway (or at least those that haven’t been closed). Arkane Lyon is working on Blade, MachineGames is working on Indiana Jones, Zenimax Online is working on The Elder Scrolls Online and finally Bethesda itself is working on Starfield, The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 (while patching Fallout 4… with more or less success). If there is a new DOOM game, id Software is the only candidate left. However, we will know for sure on June 9th.
