The successor to the legendary open world pioneer shows new gameplay

Gameplay, Legendary, Open, Pioneer, shows, Successor, World

Over 20 years have passed and a legendary open world game is finally getting a sequel. Outcast 2 is currently being assembled in Belgium by the same studio that took credit for its cult predecessor.

But it is not only in our world that 20 years have passed. Also within the story about the human soldier Cutter Slade, the events of the predecessor are correspondingly long ago. The first really extensive gameplay trailer shows that the now much older Slade hasn’t lost any of his athleticism and quick-wittedness. The video was presented at THQ Showcase 2022.

What was there to see?

The planet

What was there to see? A whole lot! Because the trailer gave us a foretaste of how the planet Adelpha presents itself this time. We were able to immediately recognize many varied regions, some of which will certainly look familiar to fans of the predecessor.

  • Okaar: We see Cutter Slade zipping through this wooded area.
  • Motazaar: The rugged mountains and lava flows are found in this area.
  • Talanzar: The desert areas of Adelpha are also home to the capital, Okriana.
  • Ranzaar: If you can see something white and snowy then you are in that area.
  • Okasankaar: At one point in Trailer, Cutter Slade flies over a greenish lake, it must be in this swamp area.

Exploring Adelpha was already a big part of the attraction in the predecessor, even if Outcast 2 will not be a technological pioneer like it was 20 years ago, when such foresight was not yet known. But at least this time Slade has a new tool at his disposal: He can fly over the planet with his jetpack! In the predecessor, the soldier was completely on foot.

If you want to know exactly what the predecessor was like, then we have the perfect video for you:

The fights

A lot has also happened in the fights. In the role of Slade, we can now upgrade our weapons with numerous modules and thus change the way they work. In addition, of course, the jetpack increases the movement considerably, since even short evasive movements are possible with it. In addition, Cutter now has an energy shield ready, with which he can deflect attacks but also knock back opponents.

In comparison to the rather one-dimensional firefights of the first part, Outcast 2 offers a considerable arsenal of possibilities in different combat situations.

What is Outcast 2 about?

Once again, the native Talans face a great threat and the misfit Cutter Slade must once again protect the entire people. This time, the aged hero has to deal with an entire army of robots who, for reasons still unknown, are occupying Adelpha and enslaving its inhabitants.

However, this time the story should be much more dynamic and adapt better to the decisions of the players. Even violence may not always be the wisest solution – even if the gameplay combat looks almost too entertaining for that. You can find out more details about the vision of the development studios in our big preview.
