After Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, the next big series in George RR Martin’s fantasy universe has already been decided. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight soll bereits 2025 erscheinen – so far, so familiar.
Now the author of A Song of Ice and Fire personally narrows down the release period of the second spin-off to Game of Thrones: According to Martin, it is already at the beginning of next year ready – a specific date has not yet been set.
This would mean that only about half a year would pass between the end of the currently running second season of House of the Dragon and the start of The Hedge Knight. Since filming of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is currently in full swing, this is certainly a realistic time frame.
It is certainly remarkable that HBO has such a tight schedule. However, the news is in line with plans to release a new series or season from the Game of Thrones universe every year. Season 3 of House of the Dragon is expected to continue in 2026.
In July, Martin himself flies to Northern Ireland
Im Not a Blogwhich George RR Martin uses as an official means of communication, the American author writes:
Filming began last week in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where much of the original Game of Thrones was shot. The new series, based on my novella The Hedge Knight, will premiere early next year, in 2025.

According to Martin, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will consist of six episodes. The series is based on the books Tales of Dunk and Egg. Because it is based on a short story and not a novel, there is not a lot of material, Martin writes.
The US author recently announced that he would like to continue the book in the future. However, only once he has finished The Winds of Winterthe sixth volume of A Song of Ice and Fire. Martin announced this book more than 13 years ago – it has not yet been published. Fans will have to continue to be patient.
We have included an article about this in the link box. The author recently stated that he was having difficulty making progress with his writing. The reason for this was that his fantasy universe had become so extensive and complex.
