The first season of The Witcher has been a success, the good production of the series led by Lauren S. Hissrich along with the cast of actors, has impressed many fans who had been waiting for the series of this famous franchise for some time. The popularity they have achieved has led many people to play The Witcher III again, and there are already a large number of fans waiting for the second season. Although the reviews have been positive, some have the doubt of knowing why they devoted very few episodes to the plot of the first season, and luckily, Hissrich has responded to all fans through Reddit.
The producer explains very well the reasons why the project was carried out in this way, and although they have been only 8 episodes that make up the first season, they were enough to make known the interesting characters of the franchise, and thus have managed to catch many fans. In reality, everything is due to a series of factors that directly influence the result of the work they have done.
«The number of episodes is based on the story we are telling, our sense of what an audience will see (and will end) and the budget. When you start a show and you don't know if it will be a success, more episodes usually means you can spend less money on each episode. So we knew we didn't want to do that. Eight felt like the magic number «.
As Hissrich says, they considered several things before starting the project, tAll depended on what they wanted to achieve and the budget they had at hand. To make quality episodes, they had to reduce the number of episodes, since they managed to have a better production. This means that if they had decided to do more episodes, the first season would not have the same quality it currently has because the budget invested in each chapter would be minimal. Notably The producer has also commented on something interesting about the second season.
«We approached S2 in the same way we did with S1: what are the stories that Sapkowski was telling and why? What building blocks do we need to establish future stories? Is there anything we miss about S1 that we want to include? And what will work on television? For example, nobody wants to see Triss have diarrhea for three episodes. So what are we trying to deduce from that in the books and how do we present that on the screen?
Apparently, they plan to apply the same formula in the second season, they look for the most interesting things in the course of history, and determine which are the ones indicated for the series to continue taking its course. What Hissrich has not said, is the number of episodes that we will see in the second season of The Witcher, although if they plan to follow the same steps as the first one, it is expected that it will also be a short season, or else, they have obtained more budget with the success and maybe we will see a little more than 8 episodes.
What do you think about this?
