Fortnite events where a Jaeger takes on a hunk of Kaiju are a thing of the past. We haven’t seen anything so epic and crazy since then, although that doesn’t mean we should detract from other events like the recent The Big Bang. While it is true that it was rather weak in comparison, what he presented is far, far above all that.
Fortnite is no longer a game with two modes, Save the world y Battle Royale, to become a form of experiences. He laid the foundation with custom islands and Creative 2.0, and the recent event did the rest: creating a multiverse in which each universe is a new experience under one name.
I already told you what my first hours in LEGO Fortnite were like and I have shown you the crazy builds that many players have achieved just days after its launch. This arrived accompanied by Rocket Racing y Festivaltwo other completely different experiences that have helped many players lose their minds again over this installment.
Rocket Racing, crazy racing at full speed
Far from settling for a collaboration with LEGO, Epic Games presents us with a second one with none other than Rocket League. They are not soccer games with cars, as many players expected, because that would be literally copying their own game and putting it in Fortnite. I point out this obvious because it seems like many players have overlooked it.
Having said that, Rocket Racing is an arcade car racing game that takes a lot of inspiration from other well-known games like Onrush, Track Mania or Hot Wheels Unleashed. Before we start telling you what it feels like to run, you should know some of its features and news in Fortnite on the occasion of its arrival.
The customization menu has a section dedicated to vehicle customization. In addition, the Battle Pass has several vehicles and different decorative elements for them. The menu is divided into three sections: body, decals (stickers) and wheels. The default car is the iconic Octane. Rocket League.
As for the mode, it is free for players on all platforms and is compatible with controller, mouse and keyboard, and easy. It is possible to use a steering wheel, but it can be tedious in the case of some models. And no, at the moment it does not have split screen.
Where to find the mode and its clues?
To play, you just have to search for the mode from the modes menu, which has always been the Battle Royale lobby. Once selected, you have to access a submenu to choose the game mode and the specific circuits that you want to play.
There are three modalities: Tutorial, Qualifying Races and normal races. The latter are carried out by selecting a specific circuit, divided into three groups based on their difficulty: Beginner, Advanced and Expert. The difficulty of the track lies in its design. Or put another way: in the amount of bad intention that its obstacles have.
Now, let’s get to it! The first thing I recommend is to do the tutorial, since there are movements that are mandatory knowledge to overcome the circuits. And if you don’t believe me, look at the last gameplay race at the beginning of the post.
Racing in Rocket Racing feels extremely fun. His greatest virtue is at the same time his greatest flaw: he does absolutely nothing new. That is to say: it may captivate you completely or it may only serve you to go racing with friends from time to time. In any case, fun is guaranteed when we are on the track. It can all be summed up in the abilities of our car:
- Accelerate, brake, turn…basic mobility.
- Skid. There are two types of drift: normal, which allows us to recover nitro, and the rocket drift, which gives us a huge boost when exiting the curve.
- Nitro. There are two modes: normal and extended nitro, which requires special actions.
- Jump. Our car can jump and stay in the air, just like in Rocket League.
- Dodge and adhesion. This is the most fun and useful mechanic of all. We can perform a boost in the air to adhere to any wall and ceiling or to make the car quickly descend to the ground.
The driving is arcade, so the only requirement to finish is to stay on the road. And speaking of roads! The layout of the 26 available tracks (confirmed that Epic Games will add more) is a lot of fun. Those included in the Beginner difficulty can be a bit boring and monotonous, although I assure you that in Advanced and Expert there is a lot of fun, especially in the latter.
Rocket Racing It doesn’t have much complexity beyond its competitive races and rank system: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite, Ace and Unreal, with the top five divided into three subranks. Unlike LEGO Fortnite, Epic Games has sought the simplest and most amazing fun with this game mode. The only thing that can prevent it from dying too quickly is that new content is constantly arriving in the form of tracks, cars and mechanics.
Fortnite Festival: life without music would be a mistake
The Big Bang event already allowed us to test what Epic Games had prepared for us Festival…And it couldn’t be cooler! Do you remember the legendary Guitar Hero? Well basically it’s the same. The only thing that changes is that our avatar or character is on a stage.
The process to access the game is exactly the same as in LEGO Fortnite y Rocket Racing. In addition, it has its own cosmetic elements (instruments, dances, auras…) and elements to buy in the store, which includes songs that we can purchase through PaVos to add to our library. If you don’t want to spend, there will always be some fixed and others that will rotate over time.
Knowing this, I consider myself a lucky guy. My first contact with the Fortnite Festival was with the great song Mr. Brightside by The Killers. Each modality (electric guitar, drums, bass and singer) has its own difficulty in each song. In this almost, the bass was 3 out of 7. Easy-Normal mode, more or less.
As for the gameplay itself, it has no mystery: four buttons to press at the exact moment with the rhythm of the song and a fifth to activate the overload. Failures have no penalty beyond slightly interrupting the song and resetting the point multiplier. The speed of pressing each button depends on the rhythm and difficulty.
Last but not least, there are several points to clarify regarding this game mode. Some positive and some not so much:
- It can be played alone or in a group, although this second option requires everyone’s coordination.
- There is an improvisation area to see who has the best skills in the face of the unexpected.
- Epic Games offers the songs for us to enjoy, but cannot prevent videos uploaded to social networks such as YouTube or broadcasts on Twitch from being claimed.
- Although not officially mentioned, Guitar Hero-type instruments can be used, specifically the guitar and drums. It is best to make sure you assign the controls.
In conclusion, Rocket Racing y Festival de Fortnite They are two very fun new experiences… although I think they both share a virtue and a defect: not offering anything new at all. The only way for these modes to survive is for them to receive constant content. And although this last judgment may sound unfair, it certainly falls somewhat short in comparison to LEGO Fortnite.
