News culture This anime from 2024 climbs into the TOP 50 of the best of all time without warning: Its meteoric rise is well deserved
Available on Crunchyroll, this anime has flown under the radar and managed to climb into the top 50 of the best productions of all time. The final season is the best conclusion to its history and its success is well deserved!
MyAnimeList’s ranking of the best anime recently underwent a change with the unexpected appearance of a new chosen one in the top 50. Although the top of the ranking has been dominated by “Freezing” since 2023, dethroning “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” with an impressive rating of 9.35/10, another surprise lies further down. “Hibike! Euphonium,” broadcast on Crunchyroll, rises to number 45, surpassing the film “The First Slam Dunk”. This rise in popularity is due to the release of the third season, which achieved a rating of 8.75 with over 18,982 votes!

A great journey to the top!
The plot of “Hibike! Euphonium” follows the members of the Kitauji High School music club as they strive to qualify for national competitions. With the arrival of a new supervisor with strict methods, the students face a variety of personal and artistic challengesEveryone has to find a balance between musical passion and academic obligations.
“Hibike! Euphonium” was released in 2015 and adapted the work of Ayano Takeda. The first season was directed by Tatsuya Ishihara and animated by Kyoto Animation, known for “K-On!!” and “Free!”, among others, or even “Violet Evergarden”. In addition, “Violet Evergarden: The Movie” is also ranked 27th in MyAnimeList’s Top 50 with a score of 8.86. It’s not the first time that one of their productions manages to land a spot in the big leagues and they have repeated this feat! In fact, “Hibike! Euphonium” quickly gained popularity thanks to its mix of drama and music. The second season, which aired in 2016, continued this momentum. In 2019, the story continued with the movie “Our Promise: A Brand New Day”, which marked a milestone for the series as it directly followed the second season. Unfortunately, the format did not seem to meet the wishes of critics who expected better character development:
The film’s plot is constrained by its limited running time, so unlike the television series, which was able to gradually introduce the relationships and subplots of everyone involved, the feature film muddles them up so much that it’s difficult to keep everything together. – Kim Morrissy expresses Anime News Network
Meanwhile, a spin-off, “Liz and the Blue Bird,” directed by Naoko Yamada, who we know as the director of the production of the film “A Silent Voice,” also allowed for an expansion of the universe by focusing on two secondary character. Fans then had to wait until 2024 when the third season finally saw the light of day!
Kyoto Animation’s work bears fruit
This third season presents the conclusion of the story. The members of the Kitauji High School Concert Band now have their sights set on winning a gold medal at the national competition. For third-year club president Kumiko Oumae and her friends, it’s their last chance before graduation! Full of impatience and anxiety, Kumiko wonders if she’s capable of conducting the orchestra… “Hibike! Euphonium” ended its broadcast on June 30. The music composed by Akito Matsuda obviously plays a crucial role in this orchestral anime and is one of its most frequently cited strengths!

The animation work, handled by Kyoto Animation, is also remarkable, despite the 2019 arson tragedy that rocked the studio. Now a page is turning, but one thing is certain: At number 45 in the rankings, fans will not soon forget it!
