Game News This could be the ultimate Dragon Ball game! With new game modes and an improved battle system, Sparking Zero promises to be explosive
This is what players have been waiting for for a long time. And the wait was worth it! Dragon Ball Sparking Zero has been in the news a lot recently after several announcements were made about it. During the Summer Game Fest we were able to find out more about the title and tell you everything in this JV Fast.
Spike Chunsoft and Bandai Namco are playing on the nostalgia of Dragon Ball fans! Sparking Zero is the spiritual sequel to the Budokai Tenkaichi series. The latest game was released in 2007. 15 years later, players are finally entitled to a new episode. Scheduled for October 11, we were able to play it during the Summer Game Fest and it comes with new features. Discover the content of the title in our JV Fast.
Like the old way
For those who have already played the Budokai Tenkaichi games released on PS2 (and partially on Wii), the gameplay of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero should not bother you. Strike, defend, teleport, throw energy waves… Navigation is very easy and the movements seem larger than life. Especially because the visual effects deepen the feeling of power and speed of the characters. Enough to make us want to move around the arenas.
In terms of techniques and powers, this seems similar to what the Xenoverse and Budokai Tenkaichi games offered. Below the characters’ life bar we see an energy bar divided into 5 sections. You must fill it (by pressing a button) to be able to perform different attacks such as a Kamehameha. On the other hand, there is a blue bar that charges as the battle progresses. Once you reach full strength, you will receive a skill point that allows you to launch chain attacks.
A story, but not only that!
As for the game modes, we obviously find a Versus mode, where you have the opportunity to compete against your friends online but also locally. Another mode called “Episode Battle” serves as a story and single-player adventure. It will be possible to follow the epic story of 8 characters. We do not know who from the roster will be playable in this mode, but Son Goku will be there, since he is the protagonist of the manga.
Although the Episode Battle mode seems pretty classic at first glance, this mode lets you spice things up a bit thanks to what-if scenarios. Yes, this information was already known to players, but we had the chance to see it in action and it looks pretty good. For example, it will be possible to confront Raditz alongside Krillin. In Akira Toriyama’s work, however, it is Piccolo who accompanies Son Goku to kill him. A rather unique novelty that allows the exploration of different time periods and offers players special endings.
The only negative point we can give to this mode is that the characters are very static during the dialogue phases. They seem stoic and are very inactive. This does not mean that the game promises to be an excellent arena fighter! To discover all the new features of Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, head over to our JV Fast at the top of the article!
