What is the absolute best thing in the world? Sure, Chicago-style deep dish pizza, but right after that comes somewhere in the 2nd to 100th place Heroes of Might & Magic – or Might & Magic Heroes, as Ubisoft has been calling the series for a few years. Unfortunately, the rebranding did not save the legendary mix of strategy and role-playing game from mothballs, because since the last part Heroes 7 in 2015 there has been silence in the box.
But what Ready or Not illustrates with the tactical shooters, a new strategy role-playing game also wants to prove this week: When the genre kings crash, someone has to grab the crown. And with that, welcome to the major Steam releases of the week. Let’s jump straight to our favorites.

Songs of Conquest makes a very specific type of strategy fan overjoyed

Wow, Songs of Conquest just looks sexy to any Heroes fan. It’s like the developers grabbed Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and tweaked it a bit to spin it into a big rebirth. And in terms of gameplay, Songs of Conquest stays close to the original: step by step you move through the country with your army, interact with exciting locations, expand your fortresses, carry out round-robin battles and level up your units.
For the early access release on May 10, 2022, Songs of Conquest will be launched on a slightly smaller scale. For the time being, there will only be four factions – Heroes fans tend to be more used to this. But hey, with paladins and necromancers there are two classics. And the swamp tribes of the Rana and mercenary tinkerers of the Barya at least sound exciting.
