news culture TOP 2 on Netflix, this original film starring a former James Bond is dismantled by critics: subscribers have time to waste
Netflix recently launched a new production exclusively on its platform: Gangsters by Alliance, an action comedy with a nice cast. The film seems to be a hit, and yet… the reviews are abysmal.
In-laws like no other
When the b ank manager Owen, played by Adam DeVine (Modern Family, Workaholics), proposes to his wife, he has to meet up with his parents afterwards: the meeting and we can’t really say that the current situation will pass. It must be said that his beloved’s father and mother are impressive, since in reality they are extremely skilled robbers who directly attack the bank where their son-in-law works.
Circumstances require them to work together to fend off opposing criminal forces and raise the humongous feat of five million dollars, just that. But working with such hotheads is no easy feat, and “Gangsters par Alliance” thus offers itself as a good-natured action comedy, with recurring gags and a few explosive scenes. Really a good mix of genres?
A box but dirty reviews
Despite the presence of Pierce Brosnan (the 007 before Daniel Craig, just to name him) and Ellen Barkin (Ocean’s Thirteen) in the shoes of famous in-laws, and those of Adam DeVine himself or even Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries) appear to be gangsters. The alliance is a real one critical sink. On Allociné, the average viewership is 1.9/5an obviously very low value; On Metacritic, the feature film receives an impressive 36% average from the press (3.5/10 by internet users).
“Gangsters by Alliance is already dead when he arrives”explains journalist G.Allen Johnson. “He fails to make his audience laugh and wastes his cast putting them in the most obvious situations and telling them unforgettable jokes.”, says another specialist critic, Murtada Eldal. For his part, Jesse Hassenger thinks so “The grotesque crowds out the ephemeral kindness of the film.”
Nevertheless, Alliance’s Gangsters is currently #2 on Netflix Trends… To see if he will hold his position for long.
