Origin of IDDQD
Many games have different cheat codes and mods with which you can customize the game, but also level it up faster and, as the name suggests, cheat. “IDDQD” has been used since the 1993 installment of “Doom,” a first-person shooter where you fight as a space marine against an invasion of demons on Mars. Exactly what the code means is a matter of debate, with it being suggested that “ID” stands for ID Software, the developers of “Doom”.
“Delta Quit Delta” is believed to refer to a program by the developer’s company or an inside joke. “IDDQD” is often associated with the All Weapon Unlock codes (“IDKFA”) and “IDSPISPOPD” (“Doom I”) or “IDCLIP” (“Doom II”), which allows one to walk through solid objects like a ghost . Since 2011 there has even been merch with the imprint “IDDQD” and the code has become a popular meme via Reddit and Rage Comics.
This is how you use IDDQD
You can of course use “IDDQD” in the classic way when playing “Doom” to activate the God mode. Outside of the game, you can also use the code in meme format, usually in combination with someone showing yellow eyes. The “IDDQD” meme isn’t quite as popular anymore, but those deep in the gaming community will still appreciate it.
Here are a few examples of using “IDDQD”:
- “IDDQD also works with the Tesla, just enter it and the battery lasts forever.”
- “IDDQD in the morning and you still have worries, but at least you make it through the day.”
- “Is vaccinating the same as activating IDDQD?”
