How much of your data volume is used for WhatsApp? We give you guidelines and tell you how you can measure your own consumption with the messenger.
The contractually guaranteed data volume rarely lasts until the end of the month. But it is difficult to determine at which points this can be saved. Because in the rarest of cases you will find information on data consumption in the description of an app. Messenger WhatsApp is no exception.
But the internet provider PYUR has for its Digital Speed Report measured how much data WhatsApp devours per minute. Accordingly, go per minute at one Video call via messenger 5 megabytes Whistle. A one minute long Voice messages, on the other hand, only burden your data volume with 0.2 megabytes. PYUR did not measure other scenarios such as viewing status messages, etc.
But you can easily determine the values yourself with WhatsApp. For this you have to proceed as follows:
Determine data usage of WhatsApp
-
1
In the main menu, tap on the three dots at the top right and select “Settings”.
-
2
Now press on “Storage and data”, then click “Network Usage”.
-
3
Now WhatsApp shows you the data consumption for different categories. Note that this is the total consumption since the app was installed and WhatsApp does not differentiate between use in WLAN and in the mobile Internet.
In a further guide we will show you how you can reduce the data consumption of WhatsApp. The messenger also offers appropriate settings for this. We will also introduce you to options for obtaining data volume free of charge.
