Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 had the most successful CoD launch of all time (by sales figures) in 2022 and flushed Activision Blizzard millions into the coffers. Since then, however, things have been going downhill: technical problems annoyed many players, which is reflected in reviews and player numbers. Many in our editorial team also lost interest in shooters:

What must it deliver now to win us back?
How Modern Warfare 2 will change this year is still unclear, but apparently the developers want to deliver at least one point: Only recently did a dataminer discover evidence of the return of the Cranked and Plunder game modes, and now it’s also from the classic Gun Game and the popular gunfight!
What clues are there?
A dataminer posted two symbols on Twitter, which he app arently took from the Modern Warfare 2 game files:

Those in the know will quickly identify the left symbol with weapons and dice as an image for Gun Game, while the two assault rifles with the masks opposite stand for Gunfight.
But how credible is the leak? The photos were taken, among other things, by the well-known and reliable CoD insider TheGhostOfHope on Twitter shared and from Tom Henderson’s website Insider Gaming picked up. In addition, the return of Gunfight was promised by the developers some time ago. Gun Game is actually already more or less in the game as a co-op mission Gun Game: Mt. Zaya.
So the chances are pretty good that it’s a trustworthy source. Of course, we still don’t know when the game modes will appear, or if the developers’ plans will change.
How do the modes work?
- Gun Game: Here 6 players play against each other without teams, so every other player is an enemy. You cannot select a loadout, instead all players are equipped with the same weapon at the start. If you get a kill with this one, you will be assigned the next weapon. Who first all weapons

has wins the round. - Gunfight: In this 2v2 mode you have to eliminate the opposing team within 40 seconds. If you fail, a flag will spawn that you can capture to win the round. If the flag remains untaken, the team with more health remaining wins. More rules:
- Teams spawn with the same weapon classes set by the game.
- No health regeneration.
