With 7.15 million visitors, the record-breaking video game adaptation performed better than Barbie, Avatar: The Way of the Water, Oppenheimer or even Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom.
The strong comeback of French cinema
Super Mario Bros will be released in 2023. The film blows up all reviews and once again establishes the dominance of Hollywood cinema in France. But be careful, French cinema is not left out either and achieves very good results. This means that French films will have a market share of 39.8% in 2023, compared to 41.3% for American productions and 18.9% for films of other nationalities.
In the top 10 most viewed films in 2023 we find three French films: Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom (4.45 million visitors), Alibi.com 2 (4.18 million) and Les trois Musketeers: d’Artagnan (3.33 million). “Thanks to the variety of works on offer, particularly French ones, and the commitment of our cinemas, France has achieved the best recovery among comparable countries.” welcomed Dominique Boutonnat, President of the CNC.
