Microsoft has published its financial results for the first quarter of 2020. The opportunity to discover some key figures from the side of the Xbox industry.
In a context of health crisis that affects the entire industry, Microsoft's quarterly gaming revenue remains stable (down 1%) and reached 2.35 billion dollars. More specifically, turnover on the "hardware" side shows a fall of 20%, which the manufacturer attributes to generalized price reductions, while the "Xbox content and services" section shows an increase of 2% (+33 million of dollars).
As CEO Satya Nadella announces, the Redmond company has found "record levels of engagement". The number of active Xbox Live users has never been higher (all platforms, PC, Xbox and mobile) and approaching 90 million. Xbox Game Pass subscribers also revealed for the first time : it is today located above ten million. The service is available as a reminder at € 1 the first month, then € 3.99 / month on PC (in beta) and € 9.99 / month on Xbox One or via the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate which combines the two and adds the Xbox Live Gold for € 12.99 / month. To compare with other subscription services, EA claimed five million EA Access / Origin Access subscribers
Finally, Microsoft also mentions Project xCloud, its cloud gaming platform, currently being tested by "several hundred thousand players", notably in the United Kingdom, South Korea, the United States, and since this week, in France.
Microsoft revealed some important new Xbox stats:
