Microsoft has increased the prices for an Xbox Live Gold membership. And not too close. In future you will have to pay almost twice as much for a year as before.
A few months ago, Microsoft removed the option to subscribe to Xbox Live Gold for twelve months. It is now clear why. After some rumors, the company has confirmed that it will adjust prices for the remaining intervals. And huge.
Previously, a one-month membership cost 6.99 dollars. In Germany and Austria the price increases to 8.99 dollars per month. The three-month subscription increases from 19.99 dollars to 23.99 dollars. But the biggest price increase concerns the six-month interval. Because this now costs 47.99 dollars instead of 39.99 dollars as before. That corresponds to the previous price for a whole year. So a doubling.
In Switzerland, prices rise from CHF 9 to CHF 9.99 for one month, from CHF 25 to CHF 27.99 (three months) and from CHF 49 to CHF 55.99 (six months). Members in affected markets, including Germany, will be notified by email and message center. The price increase will take effect 45 days after receipt of this notification.

On the official website it says: “At regular intervals we assess the value and pricing models of our services in order to respond to changes in the respective markets and to continue investing in the Xbox community. With this in mind, the pricing model for Xbox Live Gold is being adjusted in selected markets. In most of the markets, the price of Xbox Live Gold has not changed for many years, and in some markets the price has been constant for more than ten years. “
If you have an existing six- or twelve-month membership, you don’t have to expect a price increase. Only when you renew it does the new price model take effect.
